Indigenous-Led Charters
The Indigenous-led Learning Charters are developed in partnership with the Darumbal People Aboriginal Corporation (DPAC), North Rockhampton State High School, Nullu Badi Ngudyubay Academy, Rockhampton Grammar School, Rockhampton Flexible Learning Centre, National Indigenous Youth Education Coalition, and the SACE Board of SA. They are designed to foster trusted relationships with secondary schools, centering on Indigenous perspectives of wellbeing. These Charters recognise the vital role of education in connecting First Nations children and young people to their Country, Language, and Culture, while actively involving the First Nations community to support their educational success and wellbeing.
Skillspark
Skillspark has been developed in partnership with the Universities Admissions Centre, Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre, and 12 low SES schools across Victoria, NSW, and the ACT, offers a positive reimagining of Educational Access Schemes. Instead of requiring young people who’ve faced disadvantage to write statements detailing their trauma, this pathway invites them to highlight the attributes and strengths they’ve developed both inside and outside the classroom. This shift in focus relieves a significant barrier for these students. While tertiary education is a vital step toward greater opportunity, young people from disadvantaged backgrounds often encounter compounding challenges when required to relive personal hardships for alternate pathways. This process can be not only discouraging but can deter students from applying at all. A strengths-based approach, however, empowers them to celebrate their resilience, fostering a positive and thriving mindset that supports their success throughout further education and beyond. The resources provided to access the pathway were designed by young people themselves.
Engaging for Success
Engaging for Success aims to develop a resource for measuring learner progress and personal capabilities, featuring an accessible interface co-designed with schools as part of South Australia’s Tailored Learning Provision. These students are at significant risk of disengaging from education due to serious personal barriers such as poverty, trauma, mental health challenges, homelessness, and caregiving responsibilities that often compound one another. The project specifically targets these students to provide them with individualised, supportive pathways to succeed in their education and beyond. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the South Australian Department for Education, the SACE Board, and Learning Creates Australia, with a focused objective to address and relieve the disadvantages that impede these students’ educational progress. The resource will be co-designed and piloted with a select number of schools in 2024 and 2025 to ensure that the tool is tailored effectively to meet the needs of students experiencing systemic and personal barriers to learning.
